Looking for an OffShoot alternative? Here’s an honest answer
Let’s start with the part most “alternative” pages won’t tell you: if what you need is checksum-verified card offload, today, OffShoot is a very good tool — and Launchr Post doesn’t do that step yet. But people searching this phrase are usually reacting to something else: the pricing model, or the feeling that offload is only the first of five chores. That’s where this page gets useful.
Why this search exists
OffShoot is the app formerly known as Hedge — renamed in 2023, and widely treated as the de-facto standard for media offload on the Mac. Two things send its users searching. First, price: OffShoot runs $169 (Pro $249) with a yearly renewal to keep receiving updates — a big step up from the roughly $39 of the early Hedge era, and the renewal model rubs one-time-purchase people the wrong way. Second, scope: OffShoot deliberately does one thing — verified copying. Everything after the copy (sync, proxies, organizing, transcription, handover) is other apps, some of them sold separately.
The honest scorecard
If your need is offload itself — MHL checksums, multiple destinations, camera-card handling on set — the serious options remain OffShoot, ShotPut Pro and (high-end) Silverstack. We won’t pretend otherwise: Launchr Post does not yet offload cards with checksum verification. That stage is on our roadmap, and until it ships, a dedicated offload tool is the right choice for that step.
